"Snub" Dodecahedron |
This isnt a Platonic solid, but it is based on one. Imagine a dodecahedron made out of Souvlaki skewers, and move the pentagons away from the center, inserting skewers between corners, so that they are separated by "squares and triangles". Then twist each square into 2 triangles ( with an extra skewer to make the diagonal ). To give it rigidity, tie the corners of the pentagons together with string or garden twine to make stars. I have no idea why it is called "snub" - except possibly that it is a bit squashed in some respects. Here are a few pictures of one I prepared earlier. This one is about 1.5m tall.

Two more, pictures.
My niece (in law) Natalie says the "snub" dodecahedron looks like a Martian spaceship, and I dont blame her.
